“For it is no empty word for you, but your very life, and by this word you shall live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess” - Deut 32:47

The Roman scutum, war shield, was a lot to carry. It was common for soldiers to keep their shields oiled in leather carry bags. It protected them from weather and shields could be stacked on wagons for long hauls. We too need to do a little soaking. The Holy Spirit is the true gift behind the Bible. This week, Week 4,  is about resting with Him and in what He is sharing about His Word. Here are simple ways to create space for the Spirit to work on your heart:

  • Guided Prayer: After reflecting and re-reading some of your key passages and applications ask the Holy Spirit to press it into your heart and mind. Use this daily prayer to open your heart to the Spirit's work.

Spirit of the Living Word,

Thank you for sharing the Scriptures with me. The psalmist said it is perfect and revives my soul. The Word is sure and it makes me wise. It is right and fills my heart with joy. Your Word is pure and it opens my eyes.  It is sweeter than honey and more valuable than gold. Please give me a holy hunger for the Bible. Open my heart and mind to see the treasures it contains. May I be an example for others in my reading and study habits. Give me Your grace to soak in Your truth. And, thru your written Word may I always find the Living Word, Jesus. Amen

  • Music: listen to songs that open your heart to love the Bible even more. Worship the One who shared His truth with you. Song suggestions: Ancient Words, Thy Word, Every Promise Of Your Word
  • Journal: make a Thanksgiving List. Write out all the ways you are thankful for the Bible, what it shows you, how the Spirit has used it to shape you.
  • Reflect: use parts of Psalm 119 to fix your attention on God and his beautiful Word. Read it slow. No rush. Not about getting thru- more about resting in.

Soak It Up! Set aside time each day to absorb all the Truth and treasure the Spirit has shared with you and continues to share. This is less about doing and more about being with.

Enjoy.
