In a world that says identity comes in what we have and what we do, God’s love is based on relationship. Matt 3:13-17 is Jesus’ baptism. As Jesus identifies himself with the Father the Father declares Jesus to be the beloved son, the one he delights in. Love and sonship are inseparable. Before Jesus had anything or did anything God loved him because he was the beloved.
