Born of Water and Spirit

How important is baptism? People from differnt traditions and churches will put a differnt value on being baptized. But, it seems in Scritpure, whenever the Spirit of God come sover water that incredible things begin to happen. Things are born again, chaos changes into creation, and the barren becomes a blessing.
